I've experienced something new-that is for me it is new.  I was fired!  A mere moment of distraction, a matter of a few seconds, led to  my being fired from a job that I dearly loved!  It was not a shock, as I implied in the last post, I knew this was very likely.  The Lord had prepared me.  I went into the meeting with "the Lord gives and the Lord takes away.  Blessed be the Name of the LORD" on my heart.  He impressed me also with "as a lamb before his shearers is dumb".  I made no attempt to justify myself.  I left with the Doxology in my heart and on my lips.  The Lord was so gracious to overrule my flesh.  I have since seen His Glorious Hand of provision.  He is so tender and sweet in his comfort to His "little ones".
Dear old Robert Hawker (1753-1827) says "that when Jesus comes to comfort His people, and them that mourn, He converts their very troubles into sources of joy, and makes their tears richer that the "spiced wine of the Pomegranate."  (from Song of Solomon, speaking of the lover's wine of celebration).  "What blessed communion has been produced by the means of soul exercises (trials)!  How often have they (trials) drawn the people of God to visit the throne of grace, when a state of uninterrupted prosperity has made them strangers at court.  When therefore, the Lord hedges our way up with thorns, and if the thorns will not do to keep us from our earthly lovers, the Lord makes a wall, that we shall not get over.  Oh!  how gracious is it in the Lord, to allure us into the wilderness trial, and there speak comfortably to us."(Hosea 2:13-14)  "By drying up all creature resources, as the prophet's (Elijah) brook, WE MAY BE BROUGHT TO LIVE WHOLLY ON THE FOUNTAIN:  and learn that divine riddle of the apostle, which none but a child of God can understand.  "as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things."" (II Cor. 6:10)
How blessed I am to be fired!  I think I loved that job too much!  I was not overly dependent upon the money, although I'm not sure I was the best steward of it.  But it took away from several special spiritual relationships, dear friendships that fell by the wayside because of the time spent on this job.  I am (theoretically) retired, whatever that means.  I am not financially independent.  I do not have a 401k,  But I do live upon my 419p, "and my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory BY CHRIST JESUS." (Philippians 4:19) No matter what our age, no matter what our calling, Matthew 6:33 is true, "But seek first the Kingdom of God (which is Righteousness, Peace, and Joy in the Holy Spirit -Romans 14:17) and all these things shall be added unto you.  "Things" are the same as the "bread" in the Lord's Prayer.  In other words, seek to see His Kingdom rule in every event and station of our lives, and don't sweat the small stuff.  What we spend most of our earthly lives concerned about is the small stuff.  I'm here to testify to you, God keeps His Promises, He cares for His own!!!  "Cast your care upon Him, for HE CARES FOR YOU." (I Peter 5:7)

Arrogance

This is not what I planned as the subject of my next post.  But this is an immediate necessity.  A phrase in the Apostle Paul's description of the Mind of our Beautiful Lord (Phil. 2:5-7), has haunted me for some weeks- "but made Himself of no reputation".  I have been bothered by the fact that my reputation is so important to me.  I'm not talking about seeking to walk righteously lest I defile my Lord's name as Israel is said to have done (Ezekiel 36:16-23).  I am talking about that subtle, insidious pride and arrogance that validates my position, my intelligence, my character, my very being, by comparing myself to others.  The world has purified it by calling it a "healthy self esteem".  Most of the time, we are unaware that we are living "comparatively'.  But the Holy Spirit resists the proud and only gives grace to the humble.  He most often uses the discipline of circumstances to drive His message into our souls and to extract another tentacle of the original sin out of our hearts.
On my job, I have thought of my self as an especially good worker, even a "favored" worker.  I was very pleased with my work ethic, my concern for my customers, all of which sounds very noble.  But I was blind to the stirrings in my flesh when a co-worker fouled up, or I was given a seemingly "special assignment".  I even thought of myself as being very humble, being a willing servant.  But there was a spirit of "I thank God that I am not like one of these" lurking in my bosom.  Well, a Divinely ordered circumstance of discipline occurred this week.  It was of such a nature that not only did I lose my "good" reputation, I now have a "bad" reputation.  I may even lose my job!  I did nothing evil or seditious, I merely was just momentarily careless.
The lesson is, and the desire of my heart is, to learn to live out of union with and fellowship with my Sweet Lord Jesus instead of living at the expense of someone else's reputation.  May Colossians 3:17 be the passion of my soul, "And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, giving thanks to GOD THE FATHER through HIM (JESUS)."  This applies not only to our daily walk in this world, but even to our spiritual and doctrinal issues with believers and professing believers.  There is nothing in my eternal salvation and my understanding of it that I have not received out of my Lord's Hand of Grace and Mercy.  My behavior should be characterized by the heart of the publican--"Oh my God, be merciful to me a sinner."  How I praise Him that He is ever merciful (Ex. 34:6-7)  I appeal daily to His Throne of Grace to "obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb. 4:16)  For all is of grace, and to truly understand that is to put to death pride and arrogance and comparative living.  Beware of subtle sin!

Jesus, God's Fulfilled Law

Jesus, God’s Fulfilled Law

When Jesus proclaims, “I came not do mine own will, but that of Him Who sent me” (John 6:78, 5:30, 4:34), He is removing our curse (Jer. 11:3-4), that curse of breaking God’s Covenant, His Law, the expression of His Perfect Nature.  Furthermore, His delightful obedience to God’s Law set aside the law of ordinances in the external shadow covenant (Heb. 8:5), and paved the way for God’s law to be planted in the hearts of His people.  As Heb. 10:9 says, The Holy Spirit being the Interpreter, “Then He said, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God–He takes away the first (the old external covenant contained in the letter-II Cor. 3:6), that He may establish the second, the New Covenant, in the hearts of His people in fulfilment of Jer. 31:33 & Ezek.36:26-28.
His obedience to the Father’s Will in all that He said and did, even unto the cross, fulfills Jer. 11:4, “Obey My Voice and do according to all that I command you; so shall you be My people, and I will be your God.”  Jesus’ Resurrection and Ascension to the Father’s Right Hand verifies that He has fulfilled all of God’s requirements and is Whom the Father proclaimed in Matt. 3:17, “And suddenly a Voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My Beloved Son, in Whom I AM well pleased.”
In His Resurrection, He becomes the “Firstborn of many brethren”.(Rom 8:29), since He became perfect flesh and blood that we might be His brethren. (Heb. 2:10-14)  And since this is so, we are now His Family, His Household which is the message of Heb. 3:1-6. (Vs.6 “But Christ as a Son over His Own House, Whose House we are if we hold the confidence (in our belief that He is Who He said He is-Jn 6:29) and the rejoicing of the hope (that we are eternal heirs with Christ-Rom. 8:14-17) firm to the end.  And wonder of wonders, we become God’s House, or Household/Family-Eph 2:22, the very dwelling place of God in the Spirit.  All of this “too good to be true” blessing is because of the delighted obedience of the Son to His Father’s Will for His people.  Jesus is the Father’s Pleasure as a man, for it was the Man Christ Jesus that came out of the water that day.  He is now the Man at the Father’s Right Hand, ever mediating His Perfect Obedience on our behalf before the Father, assuring for all eternity that we belong in the Household/Family of the Most High God!!!  We are His People!!!  Amazing!!!  May our God be praised.
