must promote feel good emotionalism.” Nothing is further from the truth! What I do believe is that God gave His Word, true doctrine, never for just information, but always for transformation.
II Tim. 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction (training, discipline) in righteousness, that the man of God (the new creature in Christ Jesus, not the man of the flesh for in him dwells nothing good. Rom.7:17) may be complete, thoroughly equipped (throughly, or perfectly-Cambridge margin) for every good work.”
According to Ephesians 4:7-16, the gifts given to the Church through the Holy Spirits Presence, that is apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, are to, through the Word, equip all the saints--all the professed people of God, to build up the Body of Christ (and not in numbers, but in behavior) until we all come to the unity of the faith (see 4:1-6), and the knowledge of the Son of God (the transformational knowledge of 4:20-24), to a perfect man that is measured by the stature of the fullness of Christ.” What an incredible Standard--the Person of our Jesus!!! This is to be THE ONE GOAL AND PURPOSE of God given leadership in the body of Christ. Are the members looking more like Jesus Who is the Fullness of the Godhead bodily? (Col. 2:8-10)
So you see, Christ Jesus is the true Doctrine of the Church. Learning Him will never allow us to remain the same self centered, ego driven, for gain and profit beings living in the futility of our minds and wills, being comfortable in whatever “system of doctrine” that we adhere to. James says the Holy Spirit is the Jealous God Who dwells in us Jealously, He yearns Jealously.(James 4:1-10) You see, Our God is a Jealous Lover who demands that we “Love the Lord your God with ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND,” (Mt. 22:37) According to James, anything less is Spiritual Adultery! So what are we to do? Flee to Jesus–learn of and from Him!
Do you recall His High Priestly prayer in John 17:20-26? Our Lord prays to His Father that all who believe in Him through the Witness of the Apostles (to Jesus’ Resurrection–Acts 1:20-22), “May be one, as YOU, Father are in Me, and I in You; that they may be one in Us–now notice–that the world may believe that YOU SENT ME.” I do not believe that this has or is happening to any great extent, primarily because we have learned stuff about Jesus and have not learned Jesus. The extent of this kind of TRUE knowledge cannot be put on a test paper! Ephesians 3:14-21
