Blessed are the meek   Matthew 5:5

Remember:  The Kingdom of God is the Rule of the Love, Will, and Purpose of God in the hearts of His People by His gathering them together in One in Christ.  It is the Reign of God’s Grace established in our hearts by the Blood and Righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The Beatitudes describe what those Kingdom Citizens look like!

I.  “Blessed are the Meek.”
               A.   What does the Holy Spirit teach us about meekness in Scripture?
Numbers 12:3   Principle of “first mention”.   Moses is introduced as very meek (KJV), above all the men which are upon earth.  Note the context: even in the face of racial bigotry from his own brother and sister, and attacks on his position before God, he “opens not his mouth”.  It is the Lord that intervenes.  And Moses even intercedes with the Lord to remove the leprous curse upon his sinful sister.  Moses is not defensive of his reputation.
Numbers 14:11-12   When the Lord threatens to cut off the people Israel, and make of Moses a great nation, Moses intercedes for Israel (13-20), not lusting after power or a name, and God answers and preserves the nation.   Moses has no lust for power or position or a name!

            B.  From Israel’s mediator to our Mediator:
Matthew 11:28-30  (KJV)  “Come unto Me…learn of Me…for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 21:5/Zechariah 21:5  “Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, the foal of an ass.”  (KJV)
Philippians 2:3-9   If we are learning Christ, as He commands us, we will “let this mind be in us”, the very mind of Christ.  This describes Moses, and our Jesus, and the truly meek.  Remember that Jesus is meek as a King!!!
                                    1.  Reputation (as a man) before men means little, reputation before God means everything.
                                    2.  Being a servant is not optional.  Our King thinks like a servant because He Is A Servant!!!
                                    3.  Humbling oneself is also not optional.  Where ever the Mind of Christ is, there you will                 find humility birthed thinking!!!  Humility is manifested in meekness.  Humility and                             meekness are not exactly the same, but you cannot separate them.  They are the “Siamese                 twins” of Kingdom Behavior!!!
                                    4.  Obedience to the Lord is job 1, whatever the cost.
                                    5.  The restfulness of our souls (Mt 11:30) is a good barometer of meekness, for the                 meek soul abides restfully a the feet of Jesus, no matter the circumstances, in faith and                     confidence in our God’s care and sustenance, and that “the hand of our God is for good to                 all those who seek Him.”  Ezra 8:22

II.  “For they shall inherit the earth.”
Note:  The word is “inherit”, not “conquer”.  The meek find their blessedness and their blessing in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Creator, not in their own “might and power.”  The goal of the meek is Righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost—rest in the Beloved, not some conquest.  (Romans 14:17, Matthew 11:28-29)
             A.   There is an intriguing meekness and “earthlings” connection!!!
Numbers 12:3   Remember that Moses was the meekest man on earth.
Psalm 37:11   The source of our Lord’s words in Matt. 5:5
Psalm 76:8-9   “You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared and was still,                     when God arose to judgment, to deliver all the meek (KJV) of the earth.”
Isaiah 11:4   “There shall come a Rod from the stem of Jesse….with righteousness He shall judge             the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth.”
Zephaniah 2:3  “Seek ye the Lord all ye meek of the earth.”
                B.  A two-fold inheritance:

1.  In the here and now, by faith.  That is the promise of Matt. 6:25-34.  The meek operate in the                     confidence that “my God shall supply all your needs according to His Riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Phil.                 4:19   The meek are a confident, not anxious, people.  But this is the “small change” of the blessing.
                                2.  In the eternity to come!!!  Notice the NKJV margin—earth = land.  This takes us to the                         “promised land” lesson of Israel.  The meek shall inherit the promised land of God, and what is that?
II Peter 3:10-13   A promised land where Righteousness dwells!!!
Hebrews 2:5   The world to come, the world that is in subjection to man, a restoration of the                           Creation and beyond the original Creation, because of The Man, Christ Jesus. (Hebrews 1:2)
Ephesians 3:31   “Now unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages,                world without end!!!”

We undervalue the “world” that God made through the Son.  That is the first statement in Hebrews1—“by Whom He made the worlds!!!  God will restore this world to its glory, and beyond its original glory unto the Glory of the Beloved Son.  That is why, in the “Father’s Will chapter”, Eph. 1:10 states that the Father will “gather together in one all things in Christ, not just redeemed man, both which are in heaven and which are on the earth, --in Him.”

Revelation 21:1-2  Notice, a new heaven, and a new earth.
Revelation 21:10  The New Jerusalem, the bride, the Lambs wife, descends out of heaven!!!                              Where to?  The new earth, where Righteousness dwells.

Here are some further blessings of the meek, and only the meek.
Psalm 22:26   The meek shall live forever.
Psalm 25:9   The meek have the promise of guidance and teaching.
Psalm 147:6   The meek have the promise of the sustaining strength of God.
Psalm 149:4   The meek have the promise of the best “beauty treatment known to                     man”—eternal salvation!!!

And remember, meekness is not natural to fallen humans, it is only birthed by the Holy Spirit!!!  Galatians 5:23
Isaiah 61:1-3   Only the meek hear the good tidings!!!
