Great is the Mystery of Godliness Part 11
Received up in Glory Part 2
Remember: The Life, Suffering, Death, Burial, Resurrection, and Ascension of our Perfect Man, Christ Jesus, The One Who is Eternally One with the Father (John 17), this is the Witness and Gospel of the Apostles. To neglect any part of this Whole Truth is to weaken and/or distort the Gospel of God!!!
Godliness is the practical outworking and implementation of all that our Jesus Purchased for us in His Perfect Obedience to His Father’s Will. Our Godliness, that is God-ward-ness, flows out of His application of His Work through the Ministry of the Father’s Gift, the Holy Spirit. This is the GOAL of the continuing “on the earth” Ministry of our Ascended Lord Jesus. We will consider His ongoing Ministry briefly. Our Jesus isn’t just having “tea and crumpets” with the Father!
Psalm 110 This glorious Psalm Is prophetically essential to the Ascended Ministry of our Lord, and our understanding of it. It puts together the two foreshadowed ministries of our Victorious Jesus. Here we have the Verified/Justified/Vindicated Son being called to the Right Hand of Power and Authority of the Holy God of heaven and earth. This is the fulfillment of the Covenant that God made with David (II Samuel 7:12-17), which Peter makes plain at Pentecost in Acts 2:22-36.
Vs 1-2 Notice that His initial Rule is warfare: “Till I Make Your enemies Your footstool”. Footstool–#3534 kabesh from 3533 kabash. He will reign until the Father puts the Kabash on His enemies! Couple this with “Rule in the midst of Your enemies”, and we see that there is a war going on!!!
Vs 5-6 Note that He will “break in pieces (margin) kings in the day of His wrath”. Remember the warning in Psalm 2? Spoken to the rulers of the nations, “Kiss the Son lest He Be Angry”! This is figurative of kissing the scepter and or ring hand of a conquering, victorious King!!!
Psalm 45:1-7 further illustrates the Rule of this Conquering King! We have the Gospel verification that this is our King Jesus in Hebrews 2:8-9 “A Scepter of Righteousness is the Scepter of your Kingdom. You loved Righteousness and hated lawlessness: Therefore, God, Your God, has anointed You with the Oil of Gladness more than your companions.”
Psalm 110:3 Here is the hint of Glorious purpose of this war, “Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy Power.” (KJV) Prayerfully consider John 6:37-40 & 44-47 in this context. I believe Revelation 7 speaks of these “liberated captives” taken out of the gates of hell!! (Matthew 16:18) Hebrews 2:14-15 speaks of the battle, and destruction of the opposing king, and the liberation of the captives!
Psalm 45:9-17 It seems to me that this incredible description of the “royal daughter” is descriptive of the “willing people” of Psalm 110:3, the delivered captives of Hebrews 2:14-15. Her glory and testimony which seems to be implied here, is indicative to Paul’s very mysterious words in Ephesians 3:21 “To Him be Glory IN THE CHURCH by Christ Jesus, to all generations forever and forever, Amen.” He said previously in Eph. 3:10-11 that Gods mystery is that “to the intent that now the Manifold Wisdom of God might be made known BY THE CHURCH to the principalities and powers in heavenly places, according to the ETERNAL PURPOSE WHICH HE ACCOMPLISHED IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.”
I must say, however, that any Glory in the church is only by Christ Jesus. What we see in the book of Acts is Eternal Glory accomplished by Christ Jesus by the Holy Spirit. We need heavenly vision to sort through the “flesh stuff” that has been heaped upon the Glory of Christ in the church. That is the purpose of Revelation 2-3, the message to the 7 churches–Jesus’ Words are to strip the flesh off, that the Glory of Christ Jesus may alone be seen. (Ephesians 4:7-16 “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things INTO HIM WHO IS THE HEAD–CHRIST.”)
Psalm 110:4 “The Lord has sworn and will not relent, You are a Priest FOREVER according to the order of Melchizedek.”
And here is the second part fo our Ascended Savior’s Ministry–Our King is the Eternal High Priest, having no beginning nor end, after the order of that mysterious shadow, Melchizedek, King of Salem. (Genesis 14:18-20) Our ascended Jesus is not a King who is occasionally a priest, nor a priest who is occasionally a king. His Priesthood and His Kingly Rule and Authority are inseparable!
Zechariah 6:12-13 This BRANCH “shall build the temple of the LORD.” The “willing people of Ps. 110 become the temple of which Paul speaks in Ephesians 2:19-22.
Vs 13b He “ shall sit and rule on His throne; so He shall be a PRIEST on HIS THRONE, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” (Margin-Both offices) The entire book of Hebrews is devoted to the ministry of this King/Priest Who is inseparably God and the Man Who can sympathize with our weaknesses because He “was in all points tempted as we are, YET WITHOUT SIN.” In our sin, this is our only hope!!! Our King/Priest sits on His throne at the Father’s Right Hand, and it is the THRONE OF GRACE, and we are commanded to come boldly to that throne “to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Psalm 8:2 “Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.” In Matthew 21:15-16, Jesus quotes this verse to the indignation and jealousy of the Pharisees at “the children crying out in the temple and saying, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David’”. There is a bit of difference for the Lord speaks of the ordained strength as perfected praise! His strength appears to be His Praise, that is the absolute adoration and worship of His willing people who are His Temple! And of course, this is in keeping with our King/Priest Whose weapons are not fleshly!
Hebrews 8:1-2 Here is the main point of Hebrews! “Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, Who is (taken up in glory) seated at the Right Hand of the Throne of the Majesty in the Heavens, a Minister of the true Sanctuary (margin-Holies) and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.”
Hebrews 7:24-26 “But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us, holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens(Taken up.)
Here then is the warfare of our Ascended King/Priest Jesus: And that brings us to the book of Revelation! Remember, Revelation isn’t sequential nor chronological!
Rev. 1: We see John meeting our King/Priest Jesus Who is dressed for battle (14-16)
Vs 11-13: While He is the Eternal One, He is standing in the midst of the 7 lampstands, which represent His Presence on the earth through His church. (Sword=Word=Gospel=Hebrews 4:12-13)
Rev. 1:20-3:22 Our King/Priest’s purification of the vessel of His Presence in the world, His witness and testimony, that is His lampstand in the world. “7" = His whole “Temple” in the world.
Note: It is intriguing and a bit frightening, that the only church threatened with the removal of their lampstand, is the church in Ephesus, the "doctrinally pure" church!!! They were finding their "pure doctrine" at the tree of knowledge, and not at the tree of life! The letter kills, but the Spirit gives LIFE and that LIFE is manifested in devotion to and the manifestation of the First Love. Read I John.
Rev. 4-5 The Presentation and Praise to the Ascended King/Priest–the Lamb of God slain in the Eternal Plan of God is worshiped and adored by all creation (living creatures) and the redeemed from all time (24 elders). Their praise indicates His Victory is absolutely sure!!!
Rev. 6-11 The Lamb opens the seals of the earth’s history (His Story!) to reveal His victorious warfare that has occurred throughout its history. The focus is the evil in the earth. In the trumpets of Wrath, only a third of everything is mentioned. And note the “ministry” of the prayers of the saints in 6:9-11 and 8:3-5. In the midst of all this, the saints are sealed and sure!!! (chapter 7)
Rev. 12-18 The focus shifts to the warfare of satan against the Lamb and His elect.
Rev. 12 The elect Remnant of the OT brings forth the Male Child, the Ruler of the nations Who seems to immediately ascend to God and His Throne. War “breaks out in heaven” (vs7) and continues to earth where the focus becomes the People of the Lamb.
Rev. 14 Again, the saints are sealed and secure. The power of the Gospel is declared and the doom of those who will not hear it.
Rev. 15-20 The warfare, victory, and judgement detailed.
Rev. 21-22 The glorious restoration of all things–the Goal of the Will of God!
PS: Don’t get lost in the details, much error has taken root in the details, or as the old saying goes, the devil is in the details! And in this case, literally! So often he leads people astray by their being enamored by some detail. Wait on the Lord!!! This little outline of Revelation is incomplete, sort of like seeing the Grand Canyon from 30,000 feet. But even a simple reading of Revelation, without the "glasses" of many modern day interpretations, will make it plain that in this book, our King/Priest is ruling in the midst of His enemies, He is in control, working His Plan!
