We must set aside all human experience evaluations when looking at God and His Love. Everything we see and experience is fallen! Paul said, "I know that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing." (Rom 7:17) We must depend upon the Word of God, His very Revelation, to know Him. I believe that is the reason why one of the first works of the Holy Spirit in a new believer is to "pour out the Love of God in our hearts" (Rom 5:5) John says (I John 5:18) "And we know that the Son of God has come and has given an understanding, that we may know Him Who is True, and we are in Him Who is True, in His Son Jesus Christ." That understanding is the Holy Spirit. "When He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He sill speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and declare it to you." (John 16:13-14) He will teach us of Jesus, and in seeing Jesus, we will see the Father! (John 14:6-10)
God is not the sum of His attributes. We often think that if we study out each attribute fully, we will know God. But that turns God into a subject and we end up often with a "holy cadaver". I am not being disrespectful! God is a Person, an Eternal Relationship and must be known as such. God is Love. It is His Essence, the "full orb" of His Being. His attributes are facets radiating from that Glorious Love. Had He not chosen to create the earth and human beings, there would be only the full orbed revelation. The many facets would not be seen for in a Perfect Eternal Truine Relationship, only the full spectrum of Glory shines forth. But in a fallen world, the many facts of His Love come into play. Yes, even His Jealousy, Justice, and Wrath flow out in protection of that Glorious Oneness that is our God.
