Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to HIS RICHES IN GLORY BY CHRIST JESUS.”
This verse sets the stage for any consideration of Scriptures teaching as to the riches of God’s glory. A simple truth must stand before us—there is no “stuff” in glory! “All” there is (and what a horrific understatement that is) in glory is the Eternal Relationship of the Triune God. Our greatest need is to dwell in the Bosom of the Father, just as the Son has from all Eternity. The Radiance of that relationship is the Spirit of Glory. The Son is the declaration of that Greatest Glory as John says in John 1:14 & 18. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His Glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father……No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, Who is in the Bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” This is the message of Hebrews 1:1-3 God (the Father) has spoken to us by His Son Whom He has appointed heir of all things, His Son WHO IS THE BRIGHTNESS OF HIS GLORY, the express image of His Person.
So the implication of this is that the brightness of the Glory of God is the expressed declaration of His Being, the Bosom of the Love, Will, and Purpose of the Glorious Godhead!!! And of course, the Lord Jesus left no doubt when He declares in John 14:7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from no on you know Him and have seen Him.” Vs 9b “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” Now back to Phil 4:19. Paul is saying that all our needs, whatever their description, are to be met out of the inestimable and never diminishing Glory of God by Christ Jesus. And that brings up the fact that Hebrews says that The Son has been made heir of all things that the Glory of God means. And the context makes it clear that it is the incarnate Son, the God/Man of Whom the text is speaking. That is the “By Christ Jesus” part. Our Christ took upon Himself our flesh that we might be united to Him in all this Eternal wealth that we desperately need. There is no need, of whatever description, that will not find its supply in the incredible riches that are ours in Christ Jesus. But remember, they are only met in Christ Jesus!!! It is in our being united to Him and living before our Father in Him (Christ Jesus) that we draw out of the riches (not just stuff) that are the inheritance of our Jesus.(Hebrews 1:2) So we must give ourselves to “learning Jesus”. (Eph. 4:20) And we are not on our own in pursuing that curriculum. Consider I John 5:20:
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an Understanding (the Holy Spirit—John 14:16-17) in order that we may know Him that is True, and we are in Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and Eternal Life!!!”
“For in Him dwells all the Fullness of the Godhead bodily. And you are COMPLETE IN HIM.” Colossians 2:9-10a
