So Where Do You Live?
Hebrews 10:19-20
Vs 19 Therefore: Whenever you see a "therefore" in scripture, look and see what it is there for! This is the second "therefore" in this chapter.
Vs 5 This first "therefore" prepares us for the Father's solution to the futile sacrifices of the Old Covenant. They were totally unsatisfactory, fact is, they kept the offerers' defilement ever before him. Therefore, the Father prepared a body, a Perfect Body, the Body of His Holy Son to be the Perfect Sacrifice to take away sins from before the Father, and before us!
Brethren: The writer is only talking to those who call Jesus "brother". Romans 8:29 He Who is the Firstborn among many brethren, is He Who is the Firstborn from the dead. Colossians 1:18 It is this "Firstborn" Truth that makes Him our Adequate & Perfect Sacrifice.
Having Boldness: It doesn't say we should have boldness, or that we should stir up boldness. It says having boldness. This boldness is a present reality!
What kind of boldness is it talking about?
The contrast under the old covenant with its' futile sacrifices:
Exodus 20:18-19 The giving of the law—"lest we die".
Leviticus 10:1-11 Nadab & Abihu—"lest you die".
Numbers 4:18-20 "do this ….that they may live and not die".
Leviticus 16:11-13 Aaron & sprinkling of blood…"lest he die."
Exodus 30:17-21 The Laver washings…"lest they die."
Does that stir up your boldness? We'll get to the source of New Covenant boldness in a bit.
Enter the Holiest: Boldness to go where? Hagion, #39 "A sacred thing, and is used of those structures that are set apart to God. It is used of heaven itself, i.e., the immediate Presence of God and His Throne." (New Strongs Expanded Dictionary of Bible Words.) We have the Open Door to Heaven's realities right now by faith! This is the Dwelling Place of God, the dwelling places (mansions) of Matthew 14:2-3, the "place" prepared for us by the Sacrifice of the Father's Pleasure, and mediated to us by the intercession of our High Priest, Jesus Christ our Lord.
By the Blood of Jesus: Here's the Point of Access to this Glorious Fellowship—by the effective, satisfactory Blood of the Son of Man/Son of God—The Perfect Sacrifice. The blood of bulls and goats (vs 4) made things worse! The conscience was made more active for the failure of human and animal flesh and blood was ever before Israel's eyes. But His blood—no more consciousness of sin. I John 1:7b "and the blood of Jesus Christ His (The Fathers') Son, cleanses us from all sin."
Vs 20 By a New and Living Way: The old covenant was a reminder of sin and that the ultimate penalty must be paid for it. It spoke of a Righteous Holy, Unapproachable God Who was totally to be feared. Remember the "lest we die" passages above.
But Jesus consecrated (#1457 to make new, to dedicate) a New and Living Way, a way where "lest we die" does not exist! By His blood, God always has an Open Door policy with His People. More than that, His People are to now live in His Presence. There are no temporary visits! This New and Living Way is their dwelling place!
Through the veil, that is, His Flesh: Access into the Presence of the Most High God has always been a "flesh problem". I Corinthians 1:29 "That no flesh should glory in His Presence." Jer 9:23-24. (note the word "delight"); Rom 3"19-20, 7:17, 24; Eph 2:9. The Father's solution was, "But a body You have prepared for Me", a perfect Flesh, a delightful flesh, a flesh that could Glory in His Presence. Matthew 17:1-5 "This is my Beloved Son, in Whom I Am Well Pleased, hear Him." This man's Flesh was torn, but saw no corruption. (Peter's point in Acts 2:29-35.) Jesus' flesh is the only flesh that can appear in the Presence of the Most High God. His position at the Right Hand of the Father verifies this truth.
Question: Whose flesh are you bringing into the Presence of God? Are you coming in Jesus Flesh, or are you dragging in the dead meat of your own performance and religiosity? Do you expect to be heard, warmed and blessed because you didn't fall before your besetting sin this week? Did you hold your tongue when that person so irritated you—and now you feel better about yourself, feel more acceptable in you devotion to God?
Only the Flesh of your God/Man is acceptable in the Presence of the Most High God. You only and ever dwell in the Presence robed in His Perfect Flesh.
Philippians 3:8-10 Are you "found in Him"? Is He your flesh and blood? Or are you still stinking up the place with the cadavers of your own performance?
I Corinthians 4:6 You will only see the Glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ. If you look into the mirror of the Word of God, you will see your reflection turn into the Glorious reflection of the Perfect Jesus. This is how we are changed, transformed.
I Corinthians 3:7-18 Vs 18 "But we all with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord."
